Proto Hologram Blog & Newsletter Banner

Welcome to this month’s edition of the Proto Hologram Newsletter.  From airports and shopping malls to healthcare and deeply personal memorial experiences, this issue highlights how holographic and AI-powered digital humans are moving beyond novelty and becoming part of everyday life.  We’ll take you inside LaGuardia Airport’s groundbreaking deployment of AI hologram assistants, Billie Eilish’s nationwide hologram fan experience across 47 malls, and Proto Founder David Nussbaum’s latest conversation on the future of healthcare and AI avatars.  We’ll also explore one of the most emotional uses of Proto technology yet: a viral BBC-featured story showing how holograms are helping families preserve memory and connection in profoundly human ways – alongside breaking news that Proto and Hyperreal are partnering with the Osbourne family to create an AI-powered digital Ozzy Osbourne fans will soon be able to interact with worldwide.  Across every story, one theme stands out: holograms are no longer the future – they’re becoming part of the fabric of modern communication.

“The introduction of the interactive AI hologram aligns perfectly with this vision, allowing us to leverage next-generation technology to meet the evolving needs of our travelers. By providing an additional layer of intelligent, multilingual support, we are ensuring that every guest who passes through our terminal enjoys a seamless and stress-free journey.”

– Suzette Noble, Chief Executive Officer of LaGuardia Gateway Partners

The Proto Perspective

AI is the current hype cycle and it is a massive one. However, AI has existed for decades, beating chess players and gleaning operational efficiencies in back office functions. According to Proto Chief Sales Officer, Sean Storin, the real paradigm shift happening now is the capacity for unprecedented access to AI through human synapses. This is being fueled by the ever-accelerating proliferation of language models and conversational data, unlocking entirely new ways for people to access knowledge/data through low friction, natural interactions. Building meaningful AI applications requires more than just models; it takes an ecosystem of connectivity, compute, creativity, integration, and hardware working together seamlessly. It also requires modalities that are not simply 1:1 like your mobile, but rather communal terminals of conversational data. We want to “speak what we seek.”

That’s why partnerships are defining this era of innovation. We will likely see consolidation as winning solutions emerge, but as of today we see an amalgamation of best in class providers working together to deliver practical and business driven AI solutions. Proto is thrilled to collaborate with many of the leading technology providers to build the next generation of AI-powered experiences – because Proto is UI for AI.

Proto Blog Spotlight Stories

LaGuardia Launches the World’s First AI Hologram Airport Guide

At LaGuardia Airport Terminal 4 in New York City, the world’s first AI hologram digital humans – presented in Proto Lumas – are guiding passengers to their gates and favorite restaurants and helping with other needs.  It’s all thanks to the vision of the LaGuardia Gateway Partnership and our longtime partner, Holomedia AI, which developed the app specifically for ProtoOS.  Since we put the first ever hologram devices in airport terminals three years ago, this was always part of the vision and we’re proud that iconic airport LaGuardia was the first to make the move.  The world has gone crazy for LaGuardia’s “Bridget” with stories and TV segments appearing across Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Billie Eilish Appears as a Hologram in 47 U.S. Malls

In 47 malls across the U.S., Billie Eilish appeared as a hologram for the very first time to engage with fans about her James Cameron-directed concert movie, Billie Eilish–Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D).  Not only does the Hologram Media Network activation show that artists appearing as holograms doesn’t need to be about nostalgia – it also brings the hologram experience out of concert halls and stadiums and right into the modern town square, the shopping mall – making the future accessible to everyone.  The regional media coverage for these activations proves the point: HMN promotes the power of holograms in every corner of the country.  Howie Mandel’s interaction with the Billie hologram has reached viral status.

How One Family Used AI Holograms to Honor a Loved One

One of Proto’s biggest media hits of the year is also about an extremely emotional and heartfelt use of our technology in partnership with Hyperreal.  Pam Cronrath, of Washington state, had seen a hologram presentation at a nurses convention in the past and decided she wanted to use the tech to honor her husband at his wake.  Hyperreal, previous Proto partners on Stan Lee and Biggie Smalls, was able to recreate William “The Rat” Cronrath from a small amount of archival material and the friends and family at the ceremony were completely blown away.  The BBC Tech Life host, Shiona McCallum, aired the first interview with Pam and set the tone for nearly a billion more media impressions globally – people are feeling positive about using AI hologram avatars to remember their loved ones.

Proto Founder David Nussbaum on the Future of Holographic Healthcare

If you haven’t been following Proto’s rise in healthcare, the Raise the Line podcast  from Elsevier Health’s interview with Proto Founder, David Nussbaum, is a perfect way to catch up.  David spoke with Lindsey Smith about hologram doctor-patient appointments, AI avatars supporting healthcare providers, and Proto in medical schools and senior living facilities and in public health awareness campaigns about breast cancer and vaccines.

Breaking News: AI Ozzy Osbourne Avatar Will Be Able to Talk to Fans Again This Summer

Rolling Stone broke the news that Proto Hologram and Hyperreal are partnering with the Osbourne family to create an AI-powered digital Ozzy Osbourne.  Launching later this summer on Proto Luma devices across the U.S. and U.K., fans will be able to speak directly with a holographic Ozzy powered by his voice, likeness, and personality.
